She Returns Her Dog to the Shelter Due to Financial Hardship—The Shelter Gives Her Free Food So She Can Keep Her Dog
Adopting a pet and taking care of it requires commitment and responsibility, which is why some animals unfortunately end up abandoned. That’s what happened to Lilo, a dog taken in by an animal center in Tennessee, USA, along with a heartbreaking note.

The McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga shared on Facebook that Lilo was found by a kind passerby. She was walking on a leash, wearing a touching note.
« My name is Lilo. Please take care of me. My mom is homeless with two kids and can’t afford to keep me. She loves me very much, and I’m a sweet dog who loves affection. Please treat me well, » the note said.

Faced with the situation, the shelter responded with a public message to Lilo’s owner, reminding the community that they offer resources like pet food, vaccinations, and microchipping—no matter the owner’s circumstances.
“We’re so sorry you had to make the heartbreaking decision to give up Lilo,” the shelter wrote on social media. “We understand how hard it is to keep pets and their people together these days. Our goal is to help families stay united with their pets.”
Fortunately, this story has a happy ending: Lilo’s owner came back to get her. The shelter shared the joyful update while keeping the reunion details private out of respect.

In closing, the shelter encourages all pet owners not to abandon their companions.
“Abandoning a pet isn’t just against the law—it’s a choice no one should ever feel they have to make.”
