This Millionaire Carpenter Leaves His Fortune to 33 Young People to Fund Their Education

Who would have thought that a humble carpenter was actually a millionaire? Dale Schroeder, a modest carpenter from Iowa, left behind a surprising legacy after his death in 2005. Known for his frugality and hard work, he was described as a simple man who packed his own lunch for work.

When he passed away, no one suspected Schroeder’s hidden wealth. His friend Steve Nielsen, who described him as an “ordinary, hard-working man,” said, “He went to work every day, worked hard, and was frugal, just like many people in Iowa.”

Without family or children, Schroeder chose to leave his fortune to 33 young people from Iowa to help fund their college education.

Before his death, Schroeder shared his incredible plan with his lawyer: “I never had the chance to go to college. So, I’d like to help some young people go,” he said. His friend Nielsen was shocked to learn that Schroeder had saved nearly $3 million for this purpose.

This generous act transformed the lives of these recipients, who became doctors, psychologists, teachers, and more. They have stayed in touch and called themselves “Dale’s kids,” in honor of their benefactor.
